Water Damage & Flooding... A "How To" Guide!
#1 Inspect and Repair Your Roof- As a note, roof leaks keep attic insulation wet, which can lead to rot and mold.
#2 Document Your Possessions- Keep valuables in a safe deposit box away from your home. These things can help when submitting a claim: Photos, videos and digital copies.
#3 Clean Out Gutter and Downspouts- Repair and clean out your gutters and downspouts. The downspouts from your gutter should drain away from your house.
#4 Clean Out Window Wells- Dig down into the window well 6 inches to 1 foot and put in pea gravel to prevent your basement from flooding.
#5 Install Sewer Backflow Valve- Install into the drainline to prevent sewage backup into your home through the drainpipe.
#6 Protect HVAC Equipment and Appliances- HVAC equipment should be installed above water level in flood prone areas.
#7 Basement Check- Check the perimeter of your basement wall for any cracks in the foundation.
